I have a VTL which needs a new Thrust Bearing, but I don't have the luxury of waiting 10 weeks to 30 months for a new bearing to be manufactured.

I have ordered a new bearing but in the mean time, I would like to entertain alternatives that would allow me to functionally run my machine tool.

One option would be to find a used bearing. Does anyone know of a "Machine Tool Salvage Company" which might have spare parts from retired machine tools? (Similar to the automotive salvage companies.)

Respectfully,

Darrell

If you could locate iscarded machines dealer or visit some scrap yards, possibly you get locate a machine/model of your interest, you could then retieve the bearing from the machine. In India we have people offering such services for a nominal fee.

Given the state of US manufacturing, you might find a good used VTL for less than the price of a new bearing.

Do you have the bearing number?
And more details of the entire bearing arrangement?

I'm sure someone has the bearing (or bearing set) somewhere, or an equal in another brand, or perhaps a partial set, where special spacers can be made quickly bymachine shops. See if you can post the bearing number, you may be surprised.
