I am the structural engineer for a large residential project in Long Island with 3" limestone panels for part of the facade. We are looking for an independent engineer who handles the design of the limestone panels, connections, and detailing. Anyone ever been involved with these before that could do this or recommend someone else? We would like to get an engineer that we could work with throughout the design phase as opposed to having the contractor provide panel shop drawings after the design is completed and then making the structure fit the panel. Anyone know of any sites or books regarding the design and detailing of limestone panels?

I think your best bet for finding a competent PE would be to talk to some of the stone panel suppliers. They usually farm out the shop drawings and connection designs to an engineering firm that specializes in that type of work.

Just a place to start.

The Limestone Handbook of the Indiana Limestone Institute of America, Inc. is probably the best written source.
Cheers!

redhead is correct--the ILI Handbook is an excellent resource. You can probably complete your work without a consultant by using the Handbook.

However, if you are not comfortable with this, I do have extensive experience with the design and detailing of limestone panels and connections. I can be reached at davida@kockenwi.com. NOTE: I understand that this forum is not to be used for soliciting business. I am responding to ronster's request. DaveAtkins
