Our Client has specified to conduct a hydrotest on 2 of his vessels , individually , while placed in a vertical position . But , due to certain limitations , we are made to conduct the hydrotest in the HORIZONTAL position , with both the vessels joined together by bolting common Flanges of each vessel , with each other .. While placed horizontal , The water can be filled only through one of the flanges of first vessel, while flanges of second vessel are inaccessible . In other words , there is no means to check the water level in the second vessel.

Do we have to make any design considerations before such an action ?? Is it a feasible procedure ?? All Helpful tips are welcome !

Conduct hydrotest individualy in horizontal position

When conducting hydro on multiple vessels concurrently, suggest one pressure gauge for each vessel. Also, ensure all vessels are properly vented.

Hi,
I think you need to make hydrostatic testing individually; venting is required to be placed at high points of the vessel in the position to be possible to purge air pockets while the vessel is filling.

So if you want to do in horizontal position, you need to rotate the vessels in the way which one of nozzles to be in upward position to drain air packets.

You must also add some pressure to test pressure to compensate hydrostatic head, you may use following value:

1 ft of height = 0.43 psig. Or 1 mtr of height = 0.1 Bar

There is article with full detail about hydrostatic testing, you may need to review
