Depends. What material is the diaphragm?

Diaphragm material are as following:
the upper and lower diaphragm are SS
the middle diaphragm is SS with TFE coating

In general, the diaphragm will seal better* than a piston. But the piston can take higher pressure differentials/compression ratios, and won't suffer from eventual fatigue failure like the diaphragm will.

* do realize sealing hydrogen is a bit like herding cats - it diffuses through solid materials.
