Hello,
I am designing a sediment basin in NJ. The basin design includes a riser pipe (currently shown as 24" diameter, and the discharge coefficient selected is 0.60. We need to get the maximum water surface elevation to come down and i was considering designing an anti-vortext device on top of the riser. What effect does this have on the discharge coefficient or other inputs? Thank you

the discharge coefficient varies and is reduced when a vortex is formed. a plate will prevent it from being reduced by formation of a vortex which tend to suck in a lot of air. it might also act as a trash or safety barrier. if you want to increase capacity, might be better to use a larger inlet on top of your 24 inch pipe riser
