I am currently studying hydraulics, but do not understand what we were taught today, could someone,if possible please give me a step by step of the circuit function. Your help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I think you copied the diagram incorrectly. The valve linked to the motor is set to dump fluid on the ground. It doesn't show where the switches are. I suppose it is intended to sequence an extend/retract cycle with operating the motor either before or after with a shift in motor direction. I also am unsure why there is a restriction on the motor; it's not an efficient way to regulate the speed; the way the diagram is set it will always be restricting flow.
 
Thank you for the reply, when Y3 is activated, the oil goes from the pump to the motor?, I have attached a photo of the diagram from the board which we were told to take down. I hope this helps.
