Hydraulic Cylinder Piston Thickness Definition

Hello!

I'm currently designing a hydraulic jack and got stuck in the Piston thickness definition. I would appreciate if someone could guide me on what formulas should I use to avoid shear fracture on the piston.

What I have at the moment:

Load on the Piston Rod = 295 kN
Piston Rod Diameter = 55 mm
Outside diameter of the piston = 90 mm
Work pressure of the system = 48 MPa
Yield Strengh of the Material = 550 Mpa
Tensile Strengh of the Material = 650 Mpa
Safety factor = 3

Hi Bviegas

You need to look at the shearing of the threads between piston and piston rod, however if you screw the rod all the way through the piston As shown in the sketch how will you stop oil leaking down the threads and coming out on the piston rod side?
