How to increase the life of piston seal that are used in pneumatic and hydaulic cylinder?

If cylenders are off the shelf, the best is use clean air or oil. Pardal

Make sure the incoming air/oil is as free of contamination as possible. You can do this be using a filter set up in both the hydraulic and pneumatic systems. In the pneumatic system, depending on the need for a clean environment, you can also use a lubricator.

Minimize side loading of the rod also.
