We are preparing calculations for an existing beam to beam connection. The bolted connection does not meet the fatigue requirements. Therefore we are calculating a friction connection with pre-loaded bolts. Calculations are done according Euro code.
The Sls state we can meet the requirements. The Uls we have some problems to meet the requirements for bearing stress and shear stress. To meet the requirements we like to introduce injection bolts. So we have a combination of friction and shear connection. Not an ideal connection for fatigue. The Euro code does not show how the stresses will be divided.

Does anyone know a paper with such a connection or any code.

Thanks
J.

That will be a tough one to find. AISC specifically forbids using hybrid bolt & weld connections in the calculations. That tells me that they think that there has been no repeatable or experementally verifiable method to figure how much of the loading is shared by both.

I used the friction values for service loads and, ifm the ultimate loads exceededm the friction value, I assumed slippage and used the bearing/shear values for ultimate load.

Injection bolts? That a new one for me. Please explain.

Thank you all for the input. Same conclusion as I had. For anyone who has any interest see also publication from Issuu (issuu.com/facom/docs/ti-01-injectbolts-eng)
