Thanks, BigH. We are getting what you would call a monsoon, I suppose. We have a rain gauge that holds 7", I dumped it yesterday at 4 PM. This morning, 7 AM, it was overflowing. At least 21" total in the past 4 days and still coming down. Charleston usually gets about 50" per year.
Hurricane Joaquin is far enough away that wind is no problem, but it has been sending in a steady stream of moisture to make things wetter. A lot of flooding all over the SC Lowcountry. We live on what passes for the top of a "hill". So, no problem with flooding for us.
Edit: There was a break in the rain this afternoon. We had a visitor traveling though the high water in the swamp behind the house. Probably about 8 ft. long - photo with telephoto lens.
When I was in India, it was reported that Bombay had something like 39 inches of rain in 24 hours . . . won't go out on a limb to say this is absolutely true - but that's a lot of rain - Good idea to build on a hillock!
