HSS Column Connections

I have a square HSS column which I am designing the connections. (Double angle for vertical brace and Wide flange for beam) I am welding a single 3/8" plate centered on the HSS for the V-brace and offset for the wide flange (single shear plate connection). As I have not worked with HSS section before all I have to follow is the AISC 13th edition. In equation k2-12 the utilization ratio is given, I need the utilization ratio to calculate equation k1-9. Has anyone come across a worked out example of calculation this Ratio?
