The motor will draw as much current as it needs to power the pump.
If you overload a motor, it will draw more current until it overheats.
Normally, the electrical controls are configured with 'overloads' set to prevent this from happening.
If I understand correctly, you have two related problems: Your electrical controls do not have the overload protection properly configured. And, the pump is drawing too much power from the motor. Why is the pump drawing too much power? That could be many things. Was anything changed, in the pump, or in your system? Try throttling back to reduce your flow. Oftentimes, this will also reduce the power consumed. This may give you a pointer about what is going on.
But without knowing the system details, it's rather hard to come up with useful advice.
