I am attempting to print detailed maps from ArcGIS/ArcMap to a hp650c plotter. When the maps come out, there are layers and objects missing. The print previews look fine, but what comes out of the plotter doesn't. This plotter has printed maps with this much detail before. Now, the readout says "Out of memory - Data was lost." I'm new to this, so I'm wondering if there is a way I can clear out the plotter's memory and start fresh. Or do I have to buy more memory for the plotter? Or is there some sort of loophole so I can get around this problem? Could it be a problem with the software? I'm at a loss, so any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

please state your operating system, how is it configured (virtual memory, spool or anythimg that relates to memory or application,..) what software you print from some can handle large data, some just give this error, actually "out of memory" is like saying "Tired" but does not say who is tired, is it physical or emotional ...
So this out of memory could be plotter( but you say it did plot similar maps ), or your hard disk needs some free space (if windows check virtual memory settings), or wrong configuation some where eiher in operating system or application, some applications sets up a table or array to handle some file information , when it is full it generate thie misleading error.

try storing the memory in your PC not the printer.

Print/Properties/Custom Properties/Advanced Tab

Check the box Process Document ...In Computer.

this is how i have to plot large plant layouts and large pdf files.

Stop and start the print spooler service. We have an HP 1050c that regularly has some of the same problems. Stopping and then re-starting the spooling service on our server always corrects the issue. Just takes a minute to do and it works for us.
