How to vary mesh size on a 3D object in different partitions 1

Hello everyone!
I am currently trying to use different mesh sizes on a 3D rope I modelled and paritioned into several sections along the z-axis in Abaqus. Each section is supposed to have a different mesh size but as soon as I am trying to implement another mesh to the second parition, the mesh of the first partition is of course deleted.
Can anyone help me out please?
Thank you very much!

It's good to mention that you are talking about Abaqus. You can apply local seeds to cells (just change the selection mode). Then mesh the whole part or each region separately. Previous meshes shouldn't be deleted.

Oh, of course! Thank you for the hint!

As I am quite new to Abaqus, I don't completely understand what you mean. Are local seeds different to edge seeds? How can I apply them to cells?

By default, you have edge seeds but the same tool (Seed Edges) can be also applied to faces or cells (volumes) if you change the selection filter (drop-down list next to the cursor symbol on the top bar) accordingly.
