How to use populate command?

can anybody guide me through the populate feature in solid edge. The online help wasn't very useful for me to understand how to utilize it.
I wanted to create a chain strand, and i found out that populate command was feasible by reading the help, but still cannot figure out how to configure it properly.
any detailed explanation of populate process would be really helpful.

well i do WANT TO make the chain strand. currently i just made the roller and the side plates. but how to populate or pattern them?

1. I would create an assembly of the Inner and the Outer link of the chain and place this to a new assembly.
2. In the new assembly click on the Sketch icon.
3. Select x-y plane to create a sketch.
4. In the sketch environment click on the Rectangular Pattern icon.
5. Select ‘Fixed’ option in the Pattern Type at the Ribbon Bar.
6. Set X: 2 and Y: 1 on the Ribbon Bar. (Depends on the orientation of your sub-assembly it may be X: 1 and Y: 2).
7. Set X spacing to 2 times the chain pitch, (there are 2 links, Inner and Outer) leave the Y spacing to default value.
8. Click Finish to return to Assembly environment.
9. Click on the Pattern Parts icon.
10. Select the sub-assembly then click Accept on the Ribbon Bar.
11. Click on the sketch 2 times then click finish. A chain of 4 links will appear in the assembly. To add more links change X: 2 to a higher number.

Note:
To edit the sketch, Right Click on the sketch and select Edit Profile. You’ll enter the sketch environment. Click on the sketch to activate the Ribbon Bar.

thx i finally did it.. i thought populate was the command to do that.. but found out it is only to make varying copies of master file.
populate by the name felt like... fill this thing with lot of these things

well got it finally.
