Hi

Can you please confirm how we can synchronise time on our 8 PLC Siemens S7 400,
2 servers, 1 process historian and our Time Synchroniser? What port should be used on the PLC,
servers?

Time Synchroniser SEL-2407
PLC Siemens S7 400

For SEL Relays we have used IRIG B port

I'm not sure about the PLC, but you can get a PCI IRIG card (Meinberg) that can take care of the computer end of things.

Our PLCs, Servers are not connected to the internet.
Also we would like to connect it to same time synchronizer SEL-2407 we have on site. This is because our fault recorder, SEL relays are connected to this time synchronizer. Whenever we have a plant trip we can analyse the sequence of events of various parts of the plant e.g boiler, alternator, transformer, utility line.

Have a look at the grey marked options.
Under Simatic Mode and under NTP server.
We don't use them so I don't know what can be done there.

Using an SEL-2488 network clock instead of the 2407 might simplify matters. It has Irig as well, so it should not affect the other devices.

If you want complete separation from the internet, you can source your time from the Global Navigation Satellite System. This is one of many sources of GNSS based NTP servers. Prices range from under $100. to several thousands. Most GNSS reference receivers can be set up as NTP servers, these sometimes show up on ebay.

You can then run a local IP network between your devices to distribute time.

The SEL-2407 is a GPS clock. The SEL-2488 also includes the Russian equivalent of GPS and can recognize signal spoofing.
