How to specify velocity in umesh motion subroutine

I am doing a reciprocating wear simulation using umesh motion subroutine.I want to computer wear rate and end of each cycle using archards wear equation. I have only basic idea aboutt this analysis. Should i use static or dynamic analysis for wear simulation on a reciprocating wear analysis?. In the abaqus thread wear example I have seen that.: The ablation velocities specified through the user subroutine are applied at the tread surface nodes, and adaptive mesh smoothing adjusts nodes in the interior tread region to maintain a well-shaped mesh.
How to do this?
In my problem, i had modeled it as a static problem and applied periodic motion for top body while bottom one is fixed. Kindly help me to solve this .
