hello, we have a number of flame arrestors throughout our refinery already in place. Since these were put in 20 years ago, there is not a lot of information regarding the reasoning behind using the specific flame arrestors we have throughout the refinery. Is there a specific procedure one would follow when trying to specify the proper application of a specific flame arrestor? In other words, what information would i need to calculate/know in order to contact a manufacturer and buy the proper flame arrestor for my application.

Thanks,

Aman

Flame checks, flame checks with thermal shut-off, flame checks with regulation... all these are items that I have designed into waste water treatment plant jobs. Burning the digester gas...

You should only need information like flow rate, gravity of gas, how much pressure drop you can sustain, pipe size... info like this.

(these are the units I have used in the past)

Vapor generation due to external fire impinging upon the tank surface.

NFPA-69 was reissued in 2008 and has a section on flame arrestors. It might be useful.
