How to model Styrofoam?

Hi,

I am modeling a sandwich construction of styrofoam and fibre glass.

Which element type i should use for styrofoam and how can i model material property for foam. should it be anisotropic or non-linear for styrofoam?

Why not use something like SOLID186? I have no experience in this type of analysis, so take my advice with a grain of salt. But I believe for this element you can define up to 250+ layers, material properties which vary from layer to layer, orientations, etc. Material properties can be defined using the TB or MPXXXX commands. Layer properties should be defined using the SECXXXX commands. Give the Ansys documentation a look through regarding your question.

Thankyou brian. But my question is should its properties be modeled as anisotropic or non-linear? if you have some material technical data, it will greatly help. i am assuming as one solid layer of about 10mm sandwitch between glass fibre layers.

Khan, I think your question is something that you can best answer. It's very difficult for people to help remotely with a matter which is so specific. Get some advise from a trusted source in your field or company who has a good grasp of what you're doing specifically.
