I am modeling a monorail in RISA. The monorail is S12 X 35 with C10 X 15.3 cap welded on top. The way I modeled is I created a new section and input the salient properties i.e I,Z,A,d. These values were calculated on basic principles. The other properties I used some approximate values. The questions I have is what is the unbraced length. Is it zero or the length of the beam? Whatother salient properties should I input to obtain reasonably good results.

IF you were designing it by hand, what values would you use for unbraced length? I would say the unbraced length is definitely not zero. And it may or may not be the entire length. How is the monorail to be supported?

You could also make that exact section in RISASection and import it into RISA2D or 3D.
