How to make PDM Standard pull part numbers from an existing excel file?

Does anyone know how I can use an existing excel file to make PDM generate my part numbers? I would like to be able to pull a new part number from my excel file and automatically make an SW part or assembly. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you talking about SolidWorks PDM? This belongs in forum559.

I am now learning and setting up Solidworks PDM. I am finding that it setting custom variable and communicating with SolidWorks PDM is way easier with Word, than with Excel.
