I am trying to make my own small ( proof of concept,2volt ish ) electric generator. I have the Neo magnets and enamalled wire, I just want to know is there an easy way to wind the wire tight to make my own coils, whenever i do it the wire is too tight to the winder and it wont move.
Anyone have any suugestions?

Thank You:
Patrick

From an electro-magnetic viewpoint, the tightness of the magnet wire on the core doesn't really have much effect. It may be an issue mechanically, but loose wire doesn't change the magnetics much.

dpc is right. I've made coils on a thread spool using insulated wire wound by hand and held down with plastic tape (just so that it wouldn't look so funky). You just need the right number of turns and the right distance from the object you are attempting to influence with the field. I wouldn't use that for a production version, but for testing it's fine.

A friend and I built a windmill generator a few years ago. We lined the winder with some plastic and then mixed some 5 minute epoxy into the coil as we wound it. Let it sit long enough to cure and pull it out. We were making coils with 2 x 3" straight sections so we just applied the epoxy to the straight sections.
