How to handle BORON STEEL

We have been asked if we could handle fabrication of Harrow wheels using Boron Steel.

Can some one with experience with this material advice us on the following

1. How to cut and weld Boron Steel
2. How to heat treat the wheel after fabrication
3. What is the best source for the material

Diameter of the wheel is 550mm

Dont know tons about boron additions to steel, cept this:

1: boron is normally added to steel for two reasons:

A) to provide some hardening response in the absence of carbon.

b) to prevent roller fluting in the cold mill. (I think thsi is due to an increased work ahrdening rate.)

2: not many people are even familar with boron steels.

(obviously the lack of responses)

the SAE designator for boron steels is:

xxBxx -- my guide gives only the carbon steels as possible with a boron addition, it also gives the .0005-.003%wt as the amount of boron to expect.

You might want to look around for a carbon equivalent equation for the boron addition. That way you might be able to predict the effect of welding and heat-treating.
