How to get a linear motor to act tangentially to a cylinder

Hello all,

I am trying to apply a linear motor to the highlighted part in the image below:

As you can see, selecting the outside surface of the cylinder creates a linear motor which acts along the cylinder's axis. However, I need the motor to act in such a way that the cylinder is pushed along the slot shown in the model. The only other parts of the cylinder that I can select are the two faces at the ends and their corresponding edges. How can I go about doing this?

Make a dummy part that is mated and oriented the way you need, then apply the motor to that.
 
You can also try to add a sketch in the slot and mate your pin axis to that.
