Hi

I have a PV design as per ASME Section VIII Div.1 with a shell and head thickness of 23.7 mm. Nozzles attached to the shell are 24-inch manhole, and others nozzle is 6, 3, and 2-inch. Meanwhile, the 6-inch inlet nozzle is attached to the head. Design temperature/pressure is 100 Degrees Celsius / 4.14 MPa
How to determine whether a nozzle needs reinforcement or not?

Thanks

I'd refer to the relevant Code of construction, if any.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

If the design is ASME VIII Div 1, why not read it?

Thanks for the response. I can't find a paragraph/sentence that discusses nozzle reinforcement requirements, can you recommend which paragraph I should read. Does anyone know about nozzle reinforcing requirements?

Thanks

I can't believe it, it's so easy to find.

Regards

I'd have said UG-36 :)

I would start with Appendix 47

In this context I suggest starting with "TABLE OF CONTENTS" (page 5/784 pdf)

ASME PTB-4 has worked examples of nozzle reinforcement calculations as well as other example calculations from ASME Section VIII Div. 1.

As per compress software calculations, for div 1 , the relevant sections for nozzles are:
> UG-37, UG-40 : for reinforcement Area Calculation
> UG-41, UW-16, UW-15: Loading on welds
> UG-45, UG-27: Nozzle Thickness
