Hello all,

I am currently doing some research on this topic and has come across a few test method from CTM 338 and ASTM D5982 -15. Was wondering if anyone has reviewed the two and are there any pros and cons? I am new to this and would love to learn more about it, anything helps!

Thank you all!

There are 3 methods for determining the cement content of soil-cement mixtures in the ASTM standards. They are D5982 as you noted, D2901 and D806. The first two are done on fresh soil cement and the last one is done on hardened soil cement. D2901 and D806 are both chemical digestion methods, primarily digesting calcium compounds in the cement. These methods should not be used on soils that contain digestible calcium compounds such as most calcareous soils. D5982 requires developing a calibration curve using known cement contents as developed in the lab.

essentially the two methods are for two different products. one is for stabilizing material used in road base, and the other is for testing soil cement with a specified compressive strength, often used for channel linings, dams, spillways and other structural purposes.
