Hey guys,

I have a condition with steel tube columns at the ends of CFS stud walls where the other side is glazing(all in exterior walls). How would you go about detailing the baseplates for these? Would you place a pedestal and embed the baseplate in the slab?

Thanks!

If possible, I set the footing elevation below the slab. If it's small enough, and offset baseplate may work. Those can be tedious to analyze, though. If all else fails, casting a recess into the slab deep enough to house the shims/grout, baseplate, and nuts. OR...do a loose plate with headed studs that gets cast into the slab. Then they can field weld the jamb in place.
