Hi Everyone,

Sometimes I doubt to myself. In CATIA is everything so simple. Now, after I

come back to NX I have difficulties....

I like to create customized (= self made) View in 3d. When I press or "Add

View" some words shows up in the menu when you click the right Mouse

button under Orient View/Custom View and a window shows up with a

numbers of Views you tried to create with "Top...". But, thats it.

But I like to rename this views and I like to order/workwith this views. I have

two high praised Books from USA and Germany, no word about a

customized view and I had a look up and down here in the forum, no hits in this direction.

See attached image. Its a Truck Cabin for a phantasy truck.

Thanks in advance

Orient the view as desired then go to View -> operation -> save as..., enter a meaningful name. Now when you right click in the modeling view, go to orient/replace view and choose "custom view"; your saved views will show up there.

I prefer to do this from within the Part Navigator. After orientating the view to what you'd like to save a copy of, simply select the 'Modeling Views' object in the Part Navigator, press MB3 and select the 'Add View' option, which will add a new view to the list of current views, allowing you to either enter a user-defined name or accept the system-generated name.

From the Part Navigator, you also have the option to create a 'View Set', which provides a rather neat way of creating up to 8 new views, plus the current view, oriented using 'standard' projections RELATIVE to the orientation of the current view. Give it a try and I think you'll see how this could prove to be very useful at times.

Thank you to Cowski and JohnRBaker!!

I tried first the method of JohnRBaker. Works great.

The method of cowski is still not solved. The first problem was the "save as" in View orientation. This order button was not on the menu, I had to order this with the commend search. I think it is a catastrophic feature of NX, not to have all orders or buttons in the menus available like in CATIA or Solid Works. I plan to write a letter or email to the management of Siemens.

Then the next problem. Now I have the Orient View open (from Custom View) and click now helpless around in this menu like a non swimmer in a pool of piranha's. First time no reaction. All of the sudden some other views show up.

Can you cowski explain how it works? I would be very helpful. Thx

Just to clarify: are we talking about modeling views or drafting views?
Can you post a picture of the dialog you are talking about?

Up until NX 9.0 we had this concept of having different sets of 'Roles' based on the idea that a newer user might not need ALL possible menu items in a pull-down but later on he/she could ask that everything be turned on, so there are 'System Default' Roles both with and without 'full menus'. In NX 9.0 and the advent of a Ribbon-style interface, we've abandoned this approach and are now going to depend on other ways of allowing the user to adapt the UI based on his/her experience level.

Anyway, the point is that perhaps you're not using NX with 'full menus' enabled. Go to the Roles tab and select one of the 'System Default' roles 'with full menus' and see if this turns ON those 'missing' items for you.

Thanks John for the info, I will try it.

For Cowski,

it's like this before but with other names. It is in the modeling module. Via Tree it works fine now but I have no idea how to handle the window under custom view.

Thx

The 'Orient View' function is NOT what I think you think it is. It ONLY changes 'orientation' of the view to that of the view that you selected from the list. It does NOT replace your current view with one of the standard views or with one of the user-defined views that you've saved and then selected from the list.
