When calculate the flange bolts of side entry ball valve, according to ASME B16.34, Valves with bodies of sectional construction such that bolted or threaded body joints are subjected to piping mechanical loads, as a minimum, shall satisfy the following bolt cross-sectional area requirement:
[PC(Ag/Ab)]≤K2Sa≤7000
However, during the actual design process, we can't calculate the bolts which many valves are subjected to piping loads by above the formula.
For example, when we calculate the flange bolts of 3-pcs ball valve, the size and pressure of ball valve up to a certain range, it can't meet this formula.
So have you meet this problem? And how do you resolve this problem?
