How far should steel be kept away from MFDC weld guns?

Does anyone know of any guidelines that may exist as far as how far steel should be kept away from this type of welding.

We are experiencing magnification of steels within proximity's of the MFDC weld guns.

As I have experienced before typically, the material has to be “inside” the loop area to inductively heat but I’m not sure of what the character of the DC field “outside” the loop area.

Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
 
If there are such guidelines, equipment manufacturers are the first to be inquired.
What is "magnification"? Do you mean expansion? Which dimensional changes did you measure? Of what steels are you talking?

 
By magnification I mean that ferrous metal on the tooling holding the product being welded around the outer tips of the weld gun are becoming magnetized thus attracting shavings, weld splatter, etc.
 
If that is the problem you have a magnetic field originating probably from the welding current, not necessarily from the MFDC power supply. You can regularly demagnetize your tooling with suitable AC equipment.
