Recently I have developed an interest in NASA's Advanced Resistive Exercise Device(ARED) because of its ability to apply an almost constant resistance in normal and microgravity. For anyone who isn't familiar with it, here is a link to learn more about it:

I have found that the ARED machine operates with springs, pulleys, and piston cylinders. What I am not familiar with is the home gym workout machines such as OxeFit. This is what they look like:

There is much less information on how these work online and they do several other things like decreasing/increasing the resistance in between repetitions. I am wondering if this machine would hold up in space or in other words if this machine would perform with similar resistance in a microgravity setting such as a spaceship.

Also if anyone has any insight as to how it operates I would love to hear it.

Not an answer but I think I remember when they used a bungee to hold them down while they ran in socks on a slippery surface.

Well, pooh; that's not particularly high tech...

I'd imagine that one could do something with eddy current resistance which would allow real time resistance changes; my elliptical cycle does that, and I presume the Peloton does likewise.

TTFN (ta ta for now)
I can do absolutely anything. I'm an expert! faq731-376 forum1529 Entire Forum list
