For example, I want duplicates of a Hole across a surface along the XC axis but none along the YC axis, how will I be able to do it?

Hello,

First create a smart point and pattern it.
Second step is,create the hole using the patterned point / smart point.

Thanks,
Mathi K

so pattern the point first, then create the holes using the points? Though my real question is, how do you pattern only along one axis? It seems to force me to pattern YC even though I really just want to pattern XC

You should be able to just set YC to 1

NX 9.0.3.4
NX 10 (Testing)
Windows 7 64 (Windows 8.1 Tablet)

What version of NX are you using? If it's NX 8.0 or newer, when creating a Pattern, simply you only ONE axis (toggle the other one OFF).
