How do you set color and appearance in CREO 2?

We just started CREO 2 and need to set different colors on some models. In WF 4 I could go to the color and appearance editor, pick a color and click apply. All I can find in CREO 2 is pick a color and then I have to pick ALL the surfaces to apply the color to the model. What am I not seeing?

Before clicking on the color, select the model from the model tree then click the color. This changed in WF5 to where you had to select the model before applying a color to it.
