I am currently in a simmilar process. I have a BSChE form the Technion, Israel Institutue of Technology and I am in the process of getting my PE in FL.
1) You will need your degree evauluated by one of the 5 approved services. I used the WES and I had problems with them. I had to go to the BBB to get my problem resolved. (The reviewer who botched my review also determined that my complaint was unfounded and then my further complaints were ignored until the Better Business Bureau got invilved.)
2) I had a problem with the humanities & social sciences credits. I only had 10 credits reconignized and I needed 16. (I have too many foreign language credits, only 6 allowed) They let me take and pass the FE exam (get a TI-89 calculator - it is the best one allowed in FL) but will not issue the certificate until I clear the credits. Instead of taking university or commmunity college courses, I am taking CLEP exams. If I have a problem with USF granting me credit for these exams (I have some old graduate courses from USF and an existing transcript), then Charter Oak State College of Connecticut will recognize andd grant me the credits for CLEP exams that I passed for $300.
3) Go the the FBPE.org website and download the appropiate info. The board staff are also very helpful and will respond to email.
4) Do not be afraid to officially challange any board determinations. Do know when to cut your losses and fold.
5) Use the ppi2pass.com website and materials. I graduated 18 years ago and passed the 4/00 FE with a very high score due to these materials and my TI-89.
6) Florida requires your initial appplication to be submitted 6 months prior to the exam and to be complete 2 or 3 months prior. The exam is every 6 months.
Best of Luck, Cliff
