Hi all

Anyone got a formula for calculating the effective flow area through an exchanger shell when there is an impingement plate below the nozzle? TEMA 4.62 is a bit vague.

Thanks in advance

You have to calculate the flow area depending upon the "window" that the flow penetrates the bundle. Is this a Hx where the flow enters the bundle, and flows through and around the baffles, or does the fluid flow alongside the bundle and penetrate it from the side??

If the latter, then the flow area is the dome area of the bundle. If the former, I can't help with a formula per se.
