Recommended for you

1 Browse to the drawing thru SolidWorks
2 Before you open the file, click on References
3 Double click on the existing file path and name
4 Browse to the new file
5 OK and OPEN
6 SAVE!!

omg that was awesome. 3 minutes after my post. dude u rawk.

u see, i was under the assumption that one had to re-associate it while already inside the drawing and stuff.

thanks!

The only warning on re-associating is that you can't switch from assemblies to parts or vice versa. Otherwise keep on keeping on.

What B and H mentioned is also a good way to make a new part through the drawing. Copy (save as) the similar drawing and change the file name to your new part name. Go to Open through SolidWorks (don't open the part). Follow BandH's steps except don't double click to search for an existing part. Simply slow double click and manually change the file name for the new part name and open the drawing. SolidWorks will create the part file for you.
