How do i do this properly?

I created a model that has a honeycomb like mesh, to create the honeycomb mesh, i did some hexagonal cuts into the base block and pattern it over the desired area.Problem is, it takes over two hours for the pattern to be realized and i can't use it in an assembly as the programme will lag badly and hang.

Is there another way to create such a part without going through these problems?
 
A couple ways to mimic what you want.

1) Leave it as is, since it accurately defines your part. Then, a "simplified part" (look it up) that can be used in the assembly. To simplify the part, either create a solid over the part representing the outside surface (in order to cover the mesh) or delete the mesh.

2) Don't model the mesh. Just leave it as a solid and adjust the density of your material to account for the extra mass that is modeled that normally wouldn't be there. To make it look meshed, you can create a texture and apply it to your model so it renders like a mesh. If you need to define the mesh in a drawing, you will have to manually draw-in-view.

Yeah, someone here decided to model a mesh guard moderately accurately a few years ago and it still bogs down every model it comes to be used in. My pleas to get it fixed have fallen on deaf ears.

Unless newer versions have improved how they handle simplified parts then I'd go with Swertels option 2.

When you need to show it in draft you may be able to apply a honeycomb fill to get the point across.

Using a smart pattern will make the problem worse. As others have said it usually is not worth the effort.
 
Patterns containing hundreds of instances should ALWAYS be avoided.

If you are an 'oldie' like me who started on the drawing board with tracing paper, proper pencils and a set-square, you would never have hand-drawn all those patterns - if you did you'd get sacked for wasting time!
All you would do is draw just enough to show the pattern detail - 5 or 6 instances should be enough.
I would suggest doing the same in your model and then use swertels option 2.
