How do I check for a closed profile within a complex sketch?

I've imported a set of lines into Solidworks from AutoCad and I want to perform an extrude with these lines.

Unfortunately there must be gaps in the profile because extrude won't work. I've tried selecting the 'contours' (where it turns red within a closed profile) but that's not coming up either.

Is there a way to check whether certain lines within a sketch make a closed profile?

I've tried using 'extend' then 'trim' but that hasn't worked, and because there are lots of other shapes within the same sketch I can't use a simple extrude so i've got to select the contours individually.

Oh, and if there isn't a way to check it fixing it so it does form a closed profile would be just fine.

What does 'fit spline' do? Would that work?

Try re-importing the sketch. There is an option on there (I can't remember exactly what it's called) that adjusts the range in which SW takes points that aren't coincident and assumes that they are supposed to be. I think it's usually set to something like 0.001, but if your features are larger than that you could crank that up to 0.01 or even 0.1 and try again.

Tools>Sketch Tools>check sketch for feature..... there is a pull down menu for you to select what feature you'd like to complete using the current sketch. If there is a gap, overlap or such... the result will let you know and turn the trouble segment green where you can then go and repair it.
