Hi there,
I have this half round slot swiping through spiral curve. How do I call out this slot? A best practice example would be nice.

Thanks.

Typically, give an equation (or mathematical formula) for a curve defining the center of the slot and some basic dimensions to a section view of the slot normal to the curve center and then a "profile of a surface" tolerance allowing deviations from that nominal section.

Unfortunately the ASME Y14.5 standard fails to include examples of mathematical formulas for such purposes.

I agree with 3DDave.

Composite profile can be used too, assuming that the design intent is to control different characteristics of the groove within different limits.

Regarding the lack of examples of mathematical formulas for such purposes in Y14.5, I also agree with that, but if the drawing says that the model is basic geometry, no mathematical definition may be needed.
