How a quantity surveyor is valued in your country

Quantity surveyors may be more common in Europe or Asia. I've only encountered them 3 or 4 times in 50 years of practice. They are not common in Canada, and I suspect the US.
My experience with them has been excellent. All of those I've encountered have been well trained and have done their work in an excellent fashion.

One of our pub (UK) gang is retired QS. Used to spend most of his time and earned most cash in court as an expert witness. Buyers/contractors arguing over costs.
One of his amusing anectodotes was when he was asked to estimate costs for a radio telescope! Turned job down as too complicated,too much steel!
Politicians like to panic, they need activity. It is their substitute for achievement.
