hot air heating for small chemical reactor

Would it be feasible to use heated air flow to heat a small chemical reactor ?
It is a 2" half coiled SS 1000l. reactor. We normally use thermal fluid heating. Would be heated air a reliable substitute for thermal oil ?
It would be less expensive but never met or heared about such a heating system in reactors, just in dryers and food processing ...
