Does anyone have a sample of a hoist/crane checklist that an operator would use prior to the beginning of each shift. We use a combination of electric and air hoists in our facility. Perhaps someone knows of a good resource on this topic ?

Thank-you

Jeff

Ours has the following - it is for a winch.

1. Check area is clear of any obstacles (e.g. spares / scaffolding)
2. Check the ground floor lift area is safe and barriered off (ours is a single location winch so has a winch bay)
3. Check flashing warning lights are all functioning
4. Check condtion of hook block including safety catchg. Check all lifting chains and other equipment
5. Check rope an dpulley, ensure rope is correctly positioned on the drum
6. Ensure air pressure is between normal limits.
7. Ensure all hoist motions operate normally prior to lifting
8. Test braking system
9. Check warning claxon is audible.

On our site we also have cranes as well as this winch which also include testing brakes, ultimate hoist limits, fire extinguisher and other safety equipment in cab etc.

I have reviewed the manufacturer documentation, but it is pretty thin.

ASME B30.16 covers hoists . . . $59.00
ASME B30.2 covers cranes . . $58.00

Any reputable crane company can also help. ;)
