I have drawings of a building from 1968 that show a girder with designation 24BL55. It is a wide flange beam. The other beams on the project have designations such as 16WF40 which I can find. AISC design guide 15 doesn't show this designation either that I can find. Does anyone have any insight as to where I can find information on this shape?

CISC handbook has a W24 x 55. Flange width is 178 mm (7"). Depth is 599 mm (23.6"). If your beam matches those dimensions, you are probably pretty close in using those properties.

Same as W24 x 55. One of the lighter sections introduced at that time by Bethlehem Steel, thus the BL. When it appeared in the AISC manual, it had the same designation as other shapes.
