HiPot test on wires in oven 2

I'm going to be doing a hipot breakdown on some wires with rubber insulation in an oven chamber. The chamber has a hole on top and bottom where I can connect the AC output and ground. The oven is going to be set at 550F while breaking down. If I wrap a portion of the insulated wire with metal sheet and connect it to ground, am I going to fry the oven? What is a safer way to go about this?

I doubt that you wire insulation will be able to handle the 550F temperature.

Should not fry anything since your hi-pot tester should be current limited to a level that is basically nondestructive. Depending on the wire type, (cant recall names) but certain types get brittle with temp and others get soft with temp, not that this matters with your test. Verify the wire is rated for this temp if you plan on using it in such an environment (even if it passes your test).

Teflon and glass wrap insulation will take 550 F, at least per the Mil spec.

Lay a coil of the wire on a "cookie sheet" and attach the ground to the sheet. Try not to pinch or crimp the teflon insulation, or it will break down there.
