high temperature bobbin

Hi,

I'm looking for a thermoset or another material to do bobbin that will be functionning at about 300°C. Do you have an idea of what kind of material I can use for such an application?

I was looking on the Dupont website, but it seems that there is only 240°C UL material.

There are also high temperature epoxies that can take that temperature.

You need to define your requirements more specifically if you want useful recommendations. Most high temperature thermosets are used with fillers or reinforcement because they tend to be very stiff which makes them relatively brittle. There are polyimides and lower cost bismaleimdes that can be used at 300C. Polyimides are generally quite expensive and very complicated to mold into parts because they are condensation cure and often contain solvent as a processing aid. But they are known for good thermo-oxidative stability. Bismaleimides (BMI resin) process just like epoxy resin but can have Tg's up to 370C. Cyanate resins are also a possiblity but tend to be significantly more expensive than BMI. All these high temperature resins are degraded by water at these high temperaures. You can check-out

In fact I'm trying to adapted the design of an existing product (Active magnetic Bearin) for high temperature use. So I'm looking for bobbins that coud support the wire. The resin has to be mechanically resistant to bear the wire, and the device muste be used during years at 300°C into ambiant atmosphere (no corrosive environnement / no pressure). The resin has to be insulating (because the magnetic steel which compose the electomagnet).

If there is no constant high load, PTFE should do it also.

You are probably getting in the realms (i.e. 300C continuous)of where ceramics might be cheaper.
