I'm working on a system requiring a fairly high speed seal to isolate an oil lubricated gear box from a pressurized air environment. RPM will be nominally at 23000 at 4000 SFM, with air pressure ranging from atmosphere to 80 psi and oil pressure around 18 psi. Currently we use a carbon faced seal in a similar application but are looking for a lower cost alternative. Any suggestions to bring the costs down?

oops - the 4000 SFM should be 400, what a difference a 0 makes

Contact John Crane for this.

They routinely make seals for these conditions.

A seal they make for similar conditions is used in Sundyne high speed gearboxes up to 35000 RPM.

And yes, the item is low cost. (considering the service conditions)

Best regards.
