I am looking for a material for a part of size of 500x500x6mm, that can absorb an impact force of at least 60 jules.

Any ideas?

Absorb to what extent?

A sheet of steel will "absorb" such an impact. The impactor might be squashed flat, though.

You need to provide more details. Speed, weight of object, g-level, etc.

Re honeycomb

Another requirement is that the impact will not damage the metal/not crush.

Thanks for your help!

If you can't use crushing to absorb impact then it will require layered open cell polymer foam, and a lot of thickness. You have to use a face layer that is strong enough to spread the impact and prevent penetration.
How many times do you expect this to handle the impact?

And clarify your OP. "Joules" is a measure of energy, not force. What is the force limit?
