We are using a "normal" silicone AMS7267 O-ring in an area where hot dry clean air may reach 500F. Some of the O-rings (2.5-in dia) seem to be getting hard and/or worn ... 0.0139 nominal ring x-section may wear down by 0.008-inch. The pressure is under 60 psia.

"Some people" tout Perfluoroelastomers -- "Kalrez" is one (common) brand -- but they MIGHT be extra-pricey.

Any comments? Solutions? Suggestions? Sources?

You could try the following web site:

Parker have several on-line catalogues in .pdf format, some of which give the recommended seal material for various enviromental conditions (e.g. catalog 5000). I've dealt with them before and found them very helpful, so if the information isn't available on-line, try contacting them directly via their e-mail address.

Tellier,

Yeap, your could try Perfluoroelastomers or other pricey elastomers. From my experience they get pricey after silicone.

You could try increasing the number of seals (2 orings), using a different cross section (such as an x cross section type seal) or larger diameter (more material to wear).

Also look into a metal oring type seal.

Regards,

Deeptuna
