Hertz allowable contact stress

The limits normally adopted for Hertz's contact stresses are 4 times the allowable stress for linear contact and 5.5 times for point contact. You could divide the Hertz stresses by the same factors before comparing them to your allowables.


Please can anyone help me to find reference for above mentioned line as I have read this lines in many threads but unable to get reference for the same.

Hi, in the spanish (and I think also european code for steel structures) the contact stresses according Hertz for studs in holes is limited to 2,5 times the yield strength.

In DIN 19704-1 for hydraulic steel structures the Hertz stress is limited to a factor between 2 and 3 times the yield strength.
