Hello,

I am looking at a large exterior boardwalk project, intended to be constructed from timber and helical piles. Before I start my detail design, does anyone have any input or opinions regarding hemlock durability (or PT hemlock) versus PT SPF? Both materials are readily available in my area. I am assuming the hemlock will cost a bit more but I have heard that it tends to be more naturally resistant to rot and decay. Is there any truth to this?

SPF#2 will likely work... Hem-Fir is stronger and will also do the same. Both can be PT.

It is more decay resistant, but, both suffer from 'bad' detailing.
